Cut-Off
Analytic term for the substance quantity, starting from which findings are to be evaluated as positive. This value is specified by international committees on the basis of purely practical criteria and lies usually substantially over the analytically possible detection limit.
So called "wrong positve" results are to be prevented in particular, e.g. a "passive smoker" will be evaluated positively in cannabinoid testing with maximum sensitivity, although he did not smoke hashish and marijuana himself.
