Methamphetamines are synthetically manufactured designer drugs derived from Methamphetamine (1-Phenyl-2-methyl-aminopropane, (S -(Methyl)-(1-phenylpropane-2-yl)azane), which differs from the Amphetamines by methylation of the amino group. Methamphetamine was synthesized for the first time in 1887. Former trade names: Isophen™, Pervitin™.
Methamphetamines are abused as doping agents. The most important representative is today the MDMA, which is contained in most of all Ecstasy tablets, in more than 90 per cent alone or in combination with other Amphetamines (usually MDA).

Methamphetamine, 1-Phenyl-2-methyl-aminopropane, (S)-(Methyl)-(1-phenylpropane-2-yl)azane, former trade-mark Pervitin, today as illegal drug under the names Yaba or Crystal Speed. Methamphetamine metabolised in the body partially to Amphetamine. As starting material for illegal syntheses serve Ephedrine. Recristallized and therefore especially pure D-Methamphetamine (Hydrochloride) is called Ice. It has to be smoked because it is insoluble in water. | -CH3 | -H | -H | -H | -H |
MDMA, 3,4,-Methylendioxymethamphetamine. Already in 1898 synthetically produced Methamphetamine derivative. MDMA is almost the main substance in Ecstasy tablets. | -CH3 | -H | -O-CH2-O- | -H |
