Renin Inhibitors
Renin is the starting enzyme of the renin-angiotensin system (RAS), which plays a key role in hypertension regulation. Renin inhibitors binds with the plasma Renin and prevent thereby the transformation from Angiotensinogen to Angiotensin I. Renin inhibitors may be usefull for the treatment of hypertension, on which in Europe and the USA each fourth adult suffers, and other cardiovascularic diseases.
As first medicine of this new class Tekturna (active substance: Aliskiren) received the permission by the FDA in the USA.
